Friday Northfield Picks AND the National Pick Four

I hope to be back from a week at Vernon Downs in time to play the National Pick Four. I am tempted to go three deep in the Yonkers race, or four deep in the Meadowlands leg, but I hit it for $1800+ on a $48 ticket, so let's try again. Good Luck!

The Play: 5-8-10/1-2-5-7/5-7/5-6= $48

Leg A (Meadowlands Race 8): A tough race with a lot of question marks. My top pick is #10 Don’t Know Chip who shows consistent quality closes. #5 In Focus gets trotting hopples and easily won a qualifier with the straps. An unknown quantity who could improve. And #8 A Gentleman gets the first time David Miller angle and adds value. That worked last year, anyhow.

Leg B (Northfield Race 8): A wide open affair, but #2)Mindy Love Brown is sharp and could win despite the move up. #1 Getherdone Sue is a Jeckyll and Hyde type who wins for fun if she duplicates her June 3 race, but hasn’t been able to lately. #5 Sarastar moves into a super-sharp barn and can’t be ignored and #7 Saratoga’s Best always gives effort, but the post hurts her.

Leg C (Yonkers Race 9): I just don’t see any inside horses contending, the two assigned outside may not be able to handle that punishment. Let’s put T Js Mr Lavec who only lost last week because he was assigned post eight. #7 Looking Hanover won from the same post last week, so he factors in, too.

Leg D (Maywood Park Race 6): Maywood is a speed-crazy track, but the inside horses show little of late. #6 Notjustaprettyface moved to the half-mile oval last time and got roughed up, but can race from behind and should be solid. #5 Allamerican Virgin gets results with Carpenter driving and has some tactical speed. He could trip out.

Here is the Northfield card:

Race 1: 4 Here I Glow- Has shown some decent results and gets the call is a soft group; 6 Abba Abra- Third start back angle and showed a little last time; 5 Jarmoto- Was done in by the trip in last, tonight she gets Stahl back.

Race 2: 5 Deena- Got roughed up against slightly better, back to her winning ways here; 4 Jessies Band- Shows good lines when drawing well. She does here; 2 Sara’s Lil Sis- Has been streaky & may have started one last week.

Race 3: 6 Urusla K- Showed improvement with fresh hands and gets fresher hands here; 1 I Am A Laag- Shows little, but from the rail could save ground to compete; 3 Myoneandonly- Gets a good draw, but also a P driver.

Race 4: 3 Hillcrest Crystal- Wildly inconsistent, but deserves a look against this group (& after checking board for value); 2 Stonebridge Beauty- Has drawn miserably of late & has still managed some results; 6 Towner’s Big Sadie- Closes now and then; 9 Jjs Request- Always hangs around and needn’t do much to be on this super.

Race 5: 1 You Never Let Go- Was 3rd against slightly better last time she but raced here; 2 All Over Now- Shows the ability to hang around with a good draw; 6 Swift Samantha- Always does work, rarely sustains it, though.

Race 6: 4 Paint Tina- Drop to this class should allow her to get it done; 1 Precious Lass- Shows occasional speed and the rail should be huge; 5 Medoland Kendall- The sick scratch is the big concern.

Race 7: 1 Dream Misty- Usually faces better, drop last week was negated by the snowman; 2 Electric Presence- Was fried by the Independence Day trip at Hoosier; 6 Moira’s Intended- Always hangs around, but moves back up; 9 Game Danica- Capable of closing, but doesn’t always fire.

Race 8: 2 Mindy Love Brown- She heads up Northfield’s leg of the National Pick Four; 1 Getherdone Sue- Major player if she can duplicate the win four back; 5 Sarastar- Moves into the hottest barn at the track right now.

Race 9: 6 Gadjet- She won’t Stahl with Ryan tonight; 1 Jimi’s Little Wing- Competes with the $4 claimers, who are better than these; 5 Allamerican Dora- Shows enough results to put on the bottom of the ticket.

Race 10: 5 Coupon Lady- Hottest mare on the grounds right now; 4 Be Bop Beauty- Moves up yet again, but having a solid campaign; 2 Princessoftheball- Consistent and she gets a good draw. Could upset if not for the bearcat; 3 Sunrise Sunset- Has been facing better, this is a better spot for her.

Race 11: 5 Hula Lu- Lukewarm call in what may be the night’s toughest race to ‘cap; 9 Fantastic Fran- Does the win at $600 mean a return to ’10 form? 6 Soaring Cloud- Moves up but is in a positive form cycle.

Race 12: 3 Silky Sailor- Winless this year, but she has a 20% lifetime strike rate; 1 Ann’s Win’n Design- Has at least tactical speed, so the rail helps; 4 Winsmith Delight- Just a hunch.

Race 13: 1 Get Ready To Rumba- Gets her best draw in a long time; 9 Scandalous- From a good barn and Kurt chose over #2; 2 Hawthorne Maria- Looks decent on paper, but loses Sugg; 5 Holdzmfromfloppin- Should compete at this level, but is as consistent as Michelle Bachman.
