Friday fillies and mares

Picks in a minute, first a totally off-topic rant. Most fast-food places, when you order a , you get a drink. That should be part of "a meal," it seems. But the Yum Foods folks (who bring you the Kentuckly Derby) apparently don't think so. At least not at the restaurants formerly known as Kentucky Fried Chicken. So I paid $9.50 for a $7.75 (already overpriced) 3-piece meal. Well not again.

Back on-topic, rant over. Congrats to Northfield for pulling the trigger on an "instant guarantee" on the $20K Pick 5 Wednesday. Ironically, I had just sent off this month's Harness Eye column pleading for bigger guarantees when I got the word. Well done.

Here are the picks. Good Luck!

Race 1: 2 High Heels N Spurs- Moves up in good form and gets Aaron; 5 Sturgeon- Love first-time Ehrhardt, but needs a big form reversal; 4 One Starry Night- the sick scratch makes this one a big, big question mark.

Race 2: 3 All Over Now- Third start back and first good purse post in ages; 5 Friendly Kathy- Koch chose this one over the ML favorite; 2 Back Home Again- Must be considered with the good post draw.

Race 3: 2 S F Spiderman- Should be an easy winner with a flat mile; 1 Brewing Master- Nice horse, but can’t bring myself to put him on top with trainer driving; 6 Yesternite- Got the flat mile off a Q and can be more aggressive now.

Race 4: 1 She’sa Town Girl- Gets class relief and the rail; 2 Medoland Kendall- Probable favorite gets a 2nd start back but seemed short in the return; 7 Miss Port Foal Leo- Major player with Merriman driving; 4 Broadway Petera- Seems to get along pretty well with Robin, or vice-versa.

Race 5: 6 Admirals Diamond- Has been knocking at the door and may break through here; 2 Saratoga’s Best- Should get a pretty good trip here; 3 Sarastar- 1st-time Lasix & has faced better on paper, but may need a local start.

Race 6: 6 Storms Never Last- Versatility gives her a slight edge; 5 Caribean Cruise- Gets class relief and Stahl, a major factor; 9 Jessies Band- Not 100% sure how she will contend at this level, but worth a chance.

Race 7: 4 Queen Aliceanna- Gets class relief and has been solid against better, 12-1? 1 Gram Of Gold- Must be considered with Aaron and the rail; 2 Coupon Lady- Draws well and should be on the ticket; 8 Mindy Love Brown- Would be on top of the ticket if not for the snowman.

Race 8: 2 Moira’s Bliss- Barn change and gets owner-driver Stahl; 8 Osborne’s Gypsy- Raced well against similar, but the snowman and loss of regular pilot hurt; 1 Getherdone Sue- Contender from the rail, but in tough.

Race 9: 1 Master Lad Pro- Different horse when you use him leaving; 6 Done It All- He gone forward since the barn change. Is there more? 5 Go Merrily Along- Sugg’s choice over #7, who is one of the winningest locally.

Race 10: 2 Jetstream Jazzie Cam- Showed a glimpse of her potential last time; 1 Dreamfair Annie- Just a hunch from the rail; 9 Cooby N- May trip out if the #1 leaves; 4 Royal Cam Osborne- Shows decent lines against better.

Race 11: 7 Vivacious Raider- Class relief gives her the call in what seems like a two-horse race; 9 Cruisin Delight- Big improvement with the drop last time, but Stahl chose off; 1 Ursula K- Needs a good trip.

Race 12: 3 Lisa Character- Has been a bit better with Lasix and this is her best level; 4 Karrydale Charm- Class relief and Aaron, so tempting, but… 9 Doowrah Silver- Always contends but rarely wins.

Race 13: 1 Clarksville Jazz- Gets the call dropping down with the rail; 5 Jimi’s Little Wing- Trip from Hades last time. Find a pylon; 3 Getcha Sum Fortune- The other class dropper may need a local start; 6 Sadie Falcon- Not a fan, but must consider with Merriman.
