Friday fillies and mares and some thoughts on cheese

On to the picks in a minute. The other day, I stopped at Burger King for a Whopper with cheese. The cheese was extra. The Big Mac includes cheese. The Quarter Pounder with cheese, well... The Romanburger from Mister Hero includes cheese. Hell even Iron Chef Mike Symon includes cheese with his B-Spot burgers at no extra charge. So what is up with that and how much is your cheese worth?
I mean, I get paying extra for a cheeseburger over a hamburger. Heck, White Castle charges a coulpe pennies more for jalapenos than pickles. But the Whopper is the King, the be all-end all of their menu. And I have to pay 25 cents extra for a slice that weights maybe 3/4 of an ounce. $5.00 a pound for cheese. I guess that isn't outrageous. But it still seems cheap and, well, cheesy. By the way, according to BK's website, they have a Cheddar option or an American option.

Rant over. Here are the picks on what seems like a very playable card.

Race 1: 1 Sturgeon- Closed well in last and may be getting the caviar tonight; 2 Can’t Fence Me In- Dirty chose over #5 & this one may have more; 3 High Sonyador- Best draw in a while & shows some good efforts. Sometimes.

Race 2: 6 Ursula K- Hoping fresh hands make her Sugg-cessful; 3 Freenezdwontheroad- We have a Doug Guptill sighting; 9 Sophia- Needs to finish her mile, but may get a pretty decent trip here.

Race 3: 2 Legacy Chip- Easily beat these last time in the class from a poor post; 4 Lucca’s Revenge- had faced better on Route 23 and likes this track; 3 Lofty Jailbird- Robin’s chose over #1, nice colt for NEDAB stalwart Acker.

Race 4: 4 Mandm Willeedee- NW1L8 gets a slight call in a tough group to figure; 5 Quite A Shark- Wyatt chose overt he ML choice despite an iffy qualifier; 1 Mach N Cookies- Has contended in this class previously; 9 Back Home Again- Always gives effort, just doesn’t have tons of ability.

Race 5: 1 Jenabell- Inside draw may be the key, getting Stahl won’t hurt; 3 Moira’s Intended- races well when she draws well. She does, she should; 2 Longlegacy- Ends a miserable string of post positions and may surprise.

Race 6: 1 Darting Larkin- Easy winner with a flat mile. No guarantee of that; 3 Dappers Flash- Big-time class relief, but current form is suspect; 7 Paint Tina- Hasn’t sustained her work lately, but beat lesser last time Stahl drove.

Race 7: 3 Moira’s Bliss- Raced well for the new connections and may keep going forward; 1 Gadjet- Rail helps in an evenly matched group; 4 Storms Never Last- The Swartz is with her instead of the #5; 5 Caribean Cruise- Cochran’s okay, but I would like Russ or Ryan better.

Race 8: 4 Spring Fling- Solid effort with Kenny taking over the lines in last; 5 High Heels N Spurs- Has benefitted from post & trip lately, we’ll now see what she’s made of; 3 One Starry Night- Does good work, she’s a player here.

Race 9: 1 Precious Lass- Major class relief puts her atop this ticket; 2 Deena- Racing well, but she’s 0-14 this year; 6 Imagine Freedom- Imagine a 20-1 ML on a horse who is worse than 4th just once in last five in this class.

Race 10: 6 Admirals Diamond- It could be a big night for John G; 9 Jjs Request- Consistently good efforts of late; 1 Lisa Character- Lasix is not helping her late in the mile, one more chance; 5 Sara’s Lil Sis- Third start back angle.

Race 11: 3 R Cowboy- Class-dropper races two levels below his last win here; 1 Seaworthy- Will be forward early from the rail; 2 Diehl’s Deal- Fresh hands and a good draw after a bunch of bad posts.

Race 12: 9 Coupon Lady- Very impressive in her last start, 2nd tier a question; 2 Doowrah Silver- Moves up in an exceptionally good form cycle; 8 Mindy Love Brown- Gets the snowman again, was best of the rest against the top choice despite that last week.

Race 13: 4 Sadie Falcon- Maybe she will wake up after a pretty decent win; 2 Scandalous- faces far lesser than she has been; 5 Jetstreamjazziecam- Back to her old habits last time, that’s worrisome; 6 Towner’s Big Sadie- Getting a bit braver and should be on this ticket.
