Friday Hoops Action

Might as well expand our minds a bit.

Marquette vs North Carolina- The 2nd most intriguing game of the night to me. UNC is -4 and while the ACC was down a bit this year, the Big East is highly overrated and Marquette, on paper, is one of the weakest.Lay the points and take the Tar Heels (not just because of the harness racing angle)

Richmond vs Kansas- I nearly picked Kansas to win it all and now that Richmond has had several days to think about things, they revert to mid-major status. The problem is that with Kansas -10.5, things may get http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=5814531344177962624crazy late. Kansas wins easily and may cover. I might split a bet on the money line (like $725 to win 100 and then $100 -10.5), but the spread is too far. Very small play on Kansas laying the points.

Kentucky vs Ohio State. Everyone is talking about how the freshmen will play. But the key is Ohio State's experience in Diebler (who I have actually learned to appreciate after all these years- isn't he like twelfth-year senior?), Lauderdale and Lighty. Kentucky will be in this game throughout, but Coach Calamari, err, Cal the Booster's Pal, err Calipari and his boys will be forced to foul late in a close game and OSU will draw off to cover the 6 point spread (game opened at 4.5, btw, a big mover for a sweet sixteen game)

Florida State vs Virginia Commonwealth. VCU is plus 4 here and I am probably going to play them to win outright (100 to win 155). Shaka Smartm, the VCU Coach, is the 2nd best young coach in the nation (behind the man a friend calls The Nerd Without A Pocket Protector, Brad Stevens). He is highly intelligent and is an outstanding game-day coach and motivator (he has a 110-page long quote list, mine is only about 40). Florida State just isn't that good.

Good luck!
