It's Friday, I'm In Love

(I told you I would keep the Cure theme going). It is also Friday the 13th , ooooh, verrry scary.

Handicapping horses is always hard for me this time of year since I am also handicapping NCAA hoops as we head to the March Madness. What they call championship week is even more exciting, because there is a better chance of a meaningful upset. Let's face it. When a 13 beats a 4 in the big dance, they usually survive just long enough to get thumped two days later. But when the Mocs of Chattanooga (16-12) pull their conference tourney upset they are going to the big dance. And that really means something. Well, okay they are actualy going to the opening (don't call it a play-in) round game, but the excitement was real.

Of course we did not see the Cleveland State fans storm the court after the Vikings upset of Butler Tuesday night in the Horizon League championship because Butler gave the Viking fans the crappiest seats in the house. Even the Horizon League officials, who generally spend more time fawning over Butler than a soccer mom does over her mini-van, were perplexed.

But the Vikings are in, to the delight of my son Kyle (a junior at CSU) who has ridden the booster bus twice to Indy the last three days -- for the semis and the final. CSU is 2-1 lifetime in the tournament and will be a similar seed this year (There continue to be arguments as to whether they were a 13 or 14 in 1986, when the Run and Stun beat Indiana (the largest basketball bet I ever won in my life) and then St. John's before being ripped off by the officials in the Sweet Sixteen when Admiral David Robinson and Navy beat them on some questionable last second antics. The way they defend, they may actually get a win this year, too.

It is a great time of year. And now, on to the business at hand. Good Luck!

Race 1: 5 Speed Talker- Big class drop off two good efforts; 7 Krissy K- On the engine as long as it will carry her; 1 Done It All- Doesn’t do a ton of work, but may not need to from the rail.

Race 2: 6 Tk’s Lizzibeth- Terry Millhoan is a decent amateur driver; Matt Kakely is one of the best pros around, huge change, best bet; 2 Rose Run Idelle- Bet way down last time, the trip & post killed her; 1 Connie Corleone- Maybe a little braver after last start.

Race 3: 3 Secret Affair- Drops below the level of her last win; 5 Dynastar- The eight hole killed any chance last week, is improving; 4 Up Front Denise- Could be anything off the debut win.

Race 4: 2 Colossal Sahbra- Did it easily against this bunch in her ’09 debut, repeats; 3 Ashley Cruiser- Shocked a pair of good ones last week; 4 Eagle Creek Beauty- Always 4th or better if PP 6 or in; 5 La Suvera- Has never impressed me but fits with these.

Race 5: 8 Sayo Hanover- Undefeated locally and can go enough to overcome the snowman here; 2 Sara’s Lil Sis- Good speed and pretty consistent; 1 Scoot To The Top- Rail helps a ton.

Race 6: 1 Sharon’s Future- Just keeps rolling along; 2 Rosie’s Sweetie- Be smart and take the two hole, Josh; 5 Race On Wonder- Huge 1st start off claim, awful with the rail, another chance.

Race 7: 6 Silky Sailor- a lukewarm call in a balanced group; 3 Ms Fun- Is better racing from behind, but may leave here; 4 Game Sophie- Aaron chooses off to drive the 6 and now she is fit to be Tyed; 2 Exotic Cardshark- Has been working hard and getting some results.

Race 8: 7 Packet Fulla Stars- Has been a different horse with Matt K driving; 4 Anastasia Broadway- Back at a level where she belongs; 2 Baba S- Is racing well and should be in pocket.

Race 9: 5 Cathy-d- Woke up at this level after some atrocious efforts; 2 Brite Time Sue- Big effort in last, a wake-up? 7 Sadie Falcon- 3rd back + Matt, but a bad draw could make it tough.

Race 10: 4 Dessies Girl- Aaron’s back aboard and she is in cheap; 1 Betty Jack- Draws well, but last two at this level haven’t been worth writing home about; 5 Three Choices- Has competed in this class and a decent draw; 2 A Fleet Angel- Good Q off the barn change for Ducett/Redfern.

Race 11: 4 Squeaky Springs- 3 classes below level of last win and Charlie can drive a bit; 1 Sam’s Charmer- Down in class & Matt’s choice; 5 Ilooklikevada- Another barn change means??

Race 12: 2 Stormy Gray Sea- Gets Kakaley and another good draw; 1 Gram Of Gold- Better than what she’s shown lately, suspect form; 3 Back Home Again- Consistent sort figures here.

Race 13: 5 Stox Up Bluegrass- Streaky one is In a very good form cycle; 6 Nude N Naughty- Won from same PP in last for Shetler, now gets Matt; 9 Helene’s Escape- Always hangs around.

Race 14: 1 Winning Yankee- Class relief, 3rd back, the rail and Matt K. What more do you need? 4 Bigaffairintown- Races well when drawing well, draws ok tonight; 2 Ever Berries- A different horse of late, is she finally “getting it?”; 6 Quenelle Hanover- Good effort in last for a barn that has cooled off lately.
