Just Another Manic Monday

Had a good night Saturday-- 7 winners, including some values, the early double, which paid $30+ and a couple good exacta boxes. And still they go on our Northfield Park facebook Wall and complain about the Giss of Death. For those who do not know, many horsemen feel I jinx them by picking their horses to win -- it has nothing to do with anyhting they have done to prepare the horse, whether the horse is sick or fit or newly shod or not. If I pick him, he will lose due to the Giss of Death, a phrase coined by former Nortfhield horsemen/racebike marketer and current pro poker tour player Craig Stein many years ago. So, 13 more Gisses of Death tonight:

Race 1: 7 Jaccka Midnight N-Gets class relief, but will have a rough trip; 1 Dewy Soakum N Howe- Gets the rail for the first time since the turn of the century; 6- Mr Ingot- Seems to be learning to handle himself better.

Race 2: 4 Cinderella’s Pete- Should break through tonight; 5 Colby D- Good Q for McK. He has been his own worst enemy but is just 3; 7 Keep Counting- 3rd back, faces soft group.

Race 3: 1 Fox Avenue Mark- In soft and draws well; 2 Robhie- Gets the trotting master as he drops below level of his last win; 8 American Challenge- 2nd back from a sick scratch for Matt K.

Race 4: 5 Blue My Mind- Has done good work since the layoff; 1 Bos Laughin- Robin to Kakaley is enough for me to consider him; 2 Southwind Menlo- Draws well and drops but may need a start or six locally coming in from Gloucester; 3 Albert’s Angel- Gets away well; finishing not so much.

Race 5: 1 Mr Mime- Needs to keep from getting (invisible) boxed in; 2 Grit Your Teeth- Has been solid when drawing well; 4 Quantum King Leo- Right back in off the claim.

Race 6: 7 Validated Parking- Consistent enough that he should get his ticket stamped even with the 7 hole; 2 Covered Connection- Two good races with Matt K, figures; 6 Breeze On By N- Matt chose to the two over this one (and the 1 and 4) but he is still solid.

Race 7: 2 Magical Racer- Consistent and Aaron choosing to a Schillaci-trainee means little; 1 Allamerican Viper- Class dropper will be overbet and has not sustained his work; 7- Osbornes Bullet- Probably the best in here, but not from out there; 9 Panda Café- This is his level.

Race 8: 6 Mighty Looker- Tons of back class and seems to have gotten his mind right; 4 Double A- What more can you ask of him?; 1 Four By Four Mouse- 2nd start Lasix should help.

Race 9: 4 Swing Plane- You don’t drive a newcomer like that unless you know there is something between the shafts; 1 edition J B- Improved post should help; 3 Non Stop Fella N- No chance in last from 2nd tier- down the road as far as he can go. Nonstop? Doubt it.

Race 10: 1 Cg’s Wonder-Impressive in last and finally looking like a racehorse; 2 Shannons Boy Scout- Moves up and moves in, wish Tom Hall had more drives, but impressed in last; 9 Lima Honor- Wants the front, how does he get it from here?; 3 Ben’s Big Bird- consistent sort.

Race 11:.3 Rocco’s Revenge- Drops to level of his last win and may be a value; 1 Electric Wizard- Good win at this spot in last; will be overbet; 6 Blueridge Rising- Was competitive with these before the xx and could add value.

Race 12: 5 Joey Pants- Down the pike; 9 Take Down Hall- Moves up and is sharp; 2 Up Front Hanover- Returns to the Route 8 Oval; 52.2 at M1 last year
Race 13: 3 Sole Music- Waaaay overdue; 5 I’m Patrick- Hopefully won’t bounce; 9 Kris-a-character- Not what he once was; 4 Capitol Source- Hasn’t made a nickel L5, but gets Aaron.

Not a bad night- several winners including $20.40 Blue My Mind, who was my best bet of the night and a couple decent tris and exactas.

I bet a grand total of $0.00 on Monday's card, meaning Blue My Mind's owner Joe Varanese WILL NOT be getting any extra corned beef or lox cash at Davis Bakery and Deli this week.
