So, I voted today and did not have to wait in line. Apparently, I live in the only part of the world where there are not very many people voting. But, since it is election day, here is your chance to vote on a few issues. Just answer by entering a comment.

Issue 1- Should Northfield offer a Pick 3 on races 2-3-4? Yes or No

Issue 2- Are the Pick 5 and Pick 4 wagering options good ones for you? Yes or No

Issue 3- What is your favorite wager and why?

Issue 4- withdrawn from the ballot due to a lack of signatures

Issue 5- What is more important to you when wagering -- full fields or good quality horses

Issue 6A- What can Dave B and I do to make our on-air handicapping segments more useful to you?

Issue 6B- Do you even pay attention to our picks?

Thanks for voting! Don't forget. Live Tuesday racing starts tonight, November 4 and runs all winter.

Personally, I don't play the pick
3's, pick 4's etc. I would like to see more Superfectas offered. It is a bet that I see a lot of potential value in when you can play them for $.10. I mean you can box 5 horses for $12. Its rare that a super pays less that $120 so for me its a nice bet. Plus, if you can get a favorite to finish third or fourth you have some potential for a nice casher for little investment. I rarely key horses. I prefer to spend the money to box them and have less risk of a 1-2 getting nipped at the wire by my throw in 12-1 shot. Too many times I have kicked myself for playing straight tickets or keying someone who gets beat. At the Red Mile this year they offered $.10 supers in almost every race. Over the four days I was there for Futurity weekend I cashed some very nice dime supers and came home with my trip paid for and some very nice jingle to boot (thanks in no small part to Prayer I Am upsetting in the Allerage trot at 80-1) For me its fairly easy to toss 4 horses from a 9 horse field. Just my two cents on ten cent supers.
Overall I think you guys do a decent job in your pre race handicapping. One thing that may help is to give yourselves a little more time for your segments to give more details as to why you have made your selections (class drops, driver/trainer change, track conditions etc.) Also I like to see tracks who have 2 handicappers at once on camera. It gives the bettors a little more insight in that they can bounce their picks off one another. Lets say that I like the 5 horse in a particular race as an add on to my ticket for value at 10-1 showing a class drop with decent mile times but not much kick at the end of the mile. I then look at the TV and see that you have also taken the 5 but your partner has not. I can listen to you try to sell them on the 5 much like I am trying to sell myself. Perhaps their argument against the pick will help me toss the horse off or maybe your points for him helps me decide that I have made a good choice. Plus people get 2 opinions on a race. It would be nice to have one with an aggressive style to picking races and one with a more conservative approach to get the full spectrum on any given race. I am sure that your time is pretty limited between races so it may not even possible for you at Northfield to do this but it is something that I like to see. I play a lot from home and watch online so I pay pretty close attention to your on screen picks.
