Saturday, Northfield hosts some great Ohio Sires Stakes for sophomore fillie (by great I mean bettable) and both Cleveland Classic heats are playable races as well. I'll be doing my picks from the winners circle (decked out in my tix, of course) and Dave Bianconi will be interviewing winning drivers and taking care of the last few races. I haven't looked closely at the Sires races, so you will have to wait 'til tomorrow for picks there, but let's take a look at the Classic heats.
Ed Mullinax's Upfront Hannahsboy comes off a 1:49.2 stakes record in his last, the $98K North America Cup Consolation and should cruise to victory Saturday. There is som evalue underneath, imho, and I really like Stonebridge Magnum. Hall-of-Fame trainer Bob McIntosh would not pick the Classic as the first time to ship his colt out of Ontarion if he didn't plan on taking back some American greenbacks to turn into loonies. He imports Kevin Wallis (not Kevin Wallace a sthe program says), a winner of nearly 8,500 career races to drive. Dan Daley's Daley Depoist Only is a speedster who got fried in the $500K New Jersey Classic, from post two, he will get a better trip and look for Oaks Hanover to round out the superfecta.
In the second heat, Blueridge Western looks the best, but he may be vulnerable. Goddess's Justin is red-hot right now and Dick Stillings knows how to find the winners circle here, having won the Battle of Lake Erie twice with Jaguar Spur. Blueridge Western was awesome winning the $215K Berry's Creek Final at M1 and raced well in the Hempt where he ran into a bearcat named Badlands Nitro, but he raced a bit flat in a sophomore Open at Chester in his last start and may be vulnerable. I will flip those two in the first two position and use Western Outfitter for third. He draws well, and despite comparatively slow times, he has been in hand in his three recent local wins. I am not sure what his bottom is, but we will find out Saturday. I am gonna use an all for fourth in my super, but Dragoon K would be the logical choice.
Stop by and say hi if you are at the track tomorrow. Good luck!
