I did not want to take away from my 9/11 post by talking about something as mundane as handicapping. Boy was I wrong about the USA-New Zealand Amatur Challenge. Last night, the Kiwis drove scared and it led to a huge result for the Americans. Three of the New Zealanders were parked the whole mile -- perhaps something they are usd to in the longer races down there -- and were nowhere to be found at the finish. Whereas in the past, that strategy has worked for them, this time, they nailed their only inside teammate, Wart and driver Tim Vince, to the pylons, with last -minute replacement Gregg Keidel going by him at 40-1 to wrap up an All-American trifecta with Tim Miller and Marvin Raver going 1-2 (with Powerful Cam and Gub-it, respectively). It is a long series, but the Americans are up 28-14 after one leg and that is a pretty good start.
