With Sires Stakes at Scioto Downs tonight, our driver colony is a bit depleted and unfortunately, many players will look elsewhere. It's something I have never understood-- there are actually far MORE playable angles on a night like this, even if many of you thinkFrank Harris driving for Jeff Cox is a a sign of the coming apocalypse.
Drivers like JD Wengerd and Scott Cisco could have big nights, and Todd Jones may have a couple winners as well, although the Schillaci horses he drives will likely be overbet. Jeff Conger may be driving as many pacers tonight as he has all year. I am especially eager to see how he gets along with Sharon's Future. She is a notoriously aggressive horse off the gate and that is the converse of King Conger's style. Will he calm her down and actually get her rated fractions? Will she run off with him? He can't try to race her from a hole, can he?
Anyhow, the most important thing to handicapping on nights like this is to watch the board and look for value. Everbody tends to evaluate these driver changes differently and that means there is value available. Be patient. Don't force the action, but there will be opportunities.
I'm on TV with the picks tonight, so if you are at the track, stop by and say hi. I'd be happy to shoot the breeze on tonight's races with you.
Good luck and go cash!
